So much of what we hear about today is gloom and doom. I decided to create a blog where I and others can come for a little bit of happiness and maybe even laughter...it truly can be the best medicine. I hope these entries share a smile or two. Enjoy!

Funky Florence

One of the songs on the Eclipse cd is by Florence + the Machine, (which is mainly a crazy, free, bizarre girl from London with occasional extras). I checked her out and I really like some of her music. She uses the harp frequently in her songs, which I love. It's cool to hear an unconventional instrument in modern music. I think my favorite song is "Hurricane Drunk" - a desperate for love/rejection song, but you can totally feel what she's expressing. Plus it makes me want to get up and dance and be free. You can check it out at:

Vegas Baby!

Paul and I took a quick trip to Las Vegas last week for a little R&R. We left on Father's day and stayed at Westgate resort through Wednesday. Thanks to great kids, all went well.
Some highlights:
All the bakeries! We had french flan that was so close to what we had in Paris it was a happy memory.

We went to the Cirque de Soliel Mystere. And a kind salesman gave us a 2 for one coupon that saved us $120! Always a bonus.
Relaxing with my sweetie.
Listening to a superb cover band, Isis, at a lounge in the Bellagio hotel and watching the water show off the lounge balcony. We spent a lot of our time at Bellagio. I really like this hotel.
Watching an artist paint STUNNING pictures all with spraypaint. (We would have bought one, but the unsold ones were still wet and we couldn't get it safely home. bummer)
Seeing the largest chocolate fountain in the world! Yummy!

This is my new favorite flower seen in the Bellagio's Conservatory Garden: Tillandsia Cyanea - Anita.

Taken in by an Eclipse

I just bought the soundtrack cd for Eclipse. Love it! I was a bit disappointed in the New Moon soundtrack, so I hesitated on this one. So glad I came around. (I bet my friend, and big Edward fan, Casi, already has the cd and movie tickets.) My two favorites are Eclipse by Metric and Let's Get Lost by Beck and Bat for Lashes (two cool artists). My brother is coming out in a few weeks for Michigan and he wants to see the new movie, so we'll be seeing it. Should be fun. My mom is even coming, "Might as well see what everyone is talking about."
Since I don't know how to add music and video to this blog, here is the link to listen to "Let's Get Lost". So cool. www.youtube.com/watch?v=RZw7wJZFYLc

So Sassy This Sack

My friend Melissa is an interior designer at a high end design store. She has given me many of the fabric samples that are discarded after a season ends and they get new fabrics. I have been able to use them for various things. Now I'm on a green bag kick, so I decided to make bags out of these fabric samples. It has taken me awhile to decide how to piece the fabrics together and what design I wanted to use. The samples aren't big enough to use by themselves, so I have to put together several fabrics and it takes some time to decide what works together. I finally finished my first one. Here it is in all its glory! (Notice all the handy pockets...so clever.)

Canon's Canyon

We went on a hike yesterday. I snapped some of the amazing beauty around me. My sister-in-law, Brynn, has inspired me to step out of the everyday in my photography attempts. Hope you enjoy these.
